NAIST, established in October 1991 as a graduate university with no undergraduate programs, aims to foster future leaders by promoting world-class research in the fields of science and technology and providing advanced education based on these research achievements. For over 30 years since its establishment, we have focused on three core research fields - Information Science, Biological Sciences, and Materials Science - while proactively exploring their interdisciplinary areas to create new academic disciplines, resulting in the development of researchers who contribute globally and the production of highly skilled professionals with specialized expertise who support society and the economy. In addition, through collaboration with external partners, we actively address societal challenges and foster cultural innovation.
In 2018, we unified the educational and research accomplishments accumulated in these three fields into the Graduate School of Science and Technology. Currently, the Graduate School of Science and Technology offers three education programs centered on these core fields, alongside two interdisciplinary programs: the Data Science Program and the Digital Green-innovation Program. This system allows students to choose their preferred program based on their interests, enabling them to acquire cutting-edge, broad knowledge, advanced expertise, and a comprehensive perspective on society, in line with contemporary needs.
Today, society is facing increasingly complex challenges, such as demographic changes due to declining birth rates and aging populations, workforce reductions, and climate change. To address these issues in a flexible manner, in April 2024, the Center for Digital Green-innovation was located within the graduate school, alongside the establishment of the Medilux Research Center in the graduate school. Under this enhanced educational and research system, we look forward to further strengthening human resource development.
We sincerely appreciate your continued understanding and cooperation in advancing the Graduate School of Science and Technology.
